I am Aidan Winney, a 4th year computer science undergraduate student at the University of Florida. I am also getting a certificate in geography artificial intelligence.
About
Hello, my name is Aidan Winney. I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. I have always been interested in weather and meteorology since I was a child, always paying attention to The Weather Channel whenever my parents put it on the TV. In high school, I worked with the 45th Weather Squadron on doing statistical analyses of severe weather deaths in Florida. I decided to pursue computer science when entering the University of Florida because of the more well-known career prospects of computer science graduates. However, I began pivoting back into meteorology in my junior year and joined the Meteorology AI lab, led by Dr. Yixin "Berry" Wen. I was a Lapenta intern for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration during the summer of 2024, where I explored the applications of machine learning weather prediction in improving forecasting for air pollution.
